Michigan Liquor Control Commission Amends Policy
to Accommodate Chain Stores and Restaurants

(April 5, 2013) Through collaborative efforts with both the Michigan Liquor Control Commission’s (MLCC) Licensing and Enforcement Divisions, the MLCC is pleased to announce that the Commission will be implementing new procedures to simplify and shorten the licensing process for applicants and owners of  multiple licenses. This is just another step further in the licensing streamlining process that was started at  the MLCC over a year ago.

The new procedures were developed to provide a more efficient and streamlined process for those current and proposed businesses that will be licensed at 2 or more establishments throughout the state, eliminating duplication of processing thus allowing for quicker turnaround time. “This new procedure makes it more efficient and faster for owners of multiple licenses,” said Andrew Deloney, Chairman of the MLCC. “The MLCC streamlining process has been great, it’s allowing for quick and easy approvals, and now we’re expanding it further with this new opportunity. If the owner of multiple  restaurants already has 10 licensed facilities, why should the owner have to go through the same process to get an 11th, we already have all of their background and financial information, all we should require is the site check.”

When transferring ownership of a license, this application process will require a completed checklist of all required documents that would typically be collected from the applicant during the on-site inspection process. The process of investigation has been modified so that site inspections are completed after a
Commission decision on the licensing request has been rendered. The applicants become aware of a Commission decision almost immediately.
